Bardock was the husband of Gine, and the father of Raditz and Kakarot (Goku). He was a low-class Saiyan mercenary (warrior) who leads a small platoon comprised of five other Saiyan soldiers: Toma (Tora), Seripa (Fasha), Toteppo (Borgos), Panbukin (Shugesh), and Gine. Together, the team makes a living by traveling to various planets where they decimate the defenses of these civilizations and prepare them for Frieza's planetary market.
He is mentioned by Paragus in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan when he recognizes Goku as Bardock's son, and it can be thought that Paragus was Bardock's superior according to the Supplemental Daizenshuu. After being saved on the battlefield by him several times, Gine developed some feelings for Bardock. Due to her gentle nature, Gine was not cut out for fighting and retired. In Age 737, Bardock and Gine already had one son and Gine was pregnant of her second son with Bardock. In an interview, Akira Toriyama says that Bardock himself might have had siblings, but perhaps even Bardock himself does not really know and, at any rate, he probably has no interest in it either.
Bardock displays personality traits fairly typical of Saiyans. He was warlike, but compared to other Saiyans, who were cold-hearted and of simple thoughts, he also happens to possess calm judgment and a small measure of humanity. Because of his actions of saving his companions, which is rare for a Saiyan, he is greatly adored among a portion of the low-class warriors. Unlike a typical Saiyan, most having little care for comrades, Bardock deeply cares for the members of his team, and is enraged after finding them killed on planet Meat, particularly Toma (Tora) during their last conversation. He was somewhat cocky, loves fighting, and would kill in cold blood. He had a laid-back and fearless personality (which he passed onto his son Goku); as evidenced by him and his crew accepting missions that baffle even Frieza's elite soldiers, and his taking responsibility in confronting Frieza alone. He was a highly capable tactician in battle, able to perceive the situation at hand and act accordingly with it, as shown from his ability to out-maneuver Frieza's men.
Until the Kanassan's gift of foresight begins changing his life, Bardock thinks fairly little of himself being a father, and so he generally does not acknowledge his newborn son Kakarot except when the child is a topic of conversation among his platoon, and when he begins experiencing visions of an up-and-coming Kakarot. Bardock was famous for his bravery even among the Saiyans. He notably showed his bravery when he saw his impending doom; instead of fleeing for his own life, he chose to stay behind and fight to the death.

Gine was a low level ranked Saiyaness warrior as well. She was the biologically mother of Son Goku (Kakarot) and Raditz. She was gentle, not suited for fighting, and being romantic. Unlike many other Saiyans, due to her gentle nature, she was not cut out for fighting. She used be a member of Bardock's team and developed some feelings for Bardock after being saved on the battlefield by him several times. It was a rare case for Saiyans, who normally do not develop male-female relationships except for breeding purposes. Incidentally, Gine, who was not cut out as a warrior, would go on to work at the meat distribution center on Planet Vegeta.

As you know, Akira Toriyama-sensei, the father of Dragon Ball, oversaw the manga in this volume, and so naturally, he answered the questions of Naho Ooishi-sensei, who is also a super-fan of Dragon Ball!! Don’t miss it!
How was the character of Bardock born? (I heard he was born from the TV special, “A Lonely Final Battle”, but…) Also, what sort of attachment do you have to the character Bardock?
Yes, Bardock certainly was born from the anime. However, I don’t remember the particulars of how it went at that time. As for his design, I think I probably just gave some editorial supervision to what was suggested to me by [people from] the anime side of things. I don’t r
Gine's story - Chapter 3Bardock chuckled with his friends when he heard is name.
“Me against that suckling? I will crush her like a flea!” Said the boy proud of him.
“Poor little girl, what a shame.” Answered Toma, the best friend of Bardock.
The two was together since they were both newborn, same day, two hour difference. They were among the most powerful sayan and for this reason they already had a hundred conquests in their eight years of life.
Bardock put his hand on his shoulder spinning his arm as he advanced in the middle of the gym. Gine staring at him with her mouth slightly open, corious and excited to find a warrior in front of her.
Meiz looked with her scouter the power level of the child, and then she snapped to Nerge. “Are you crazy?! Gine will never support a duel againsts that child!” Said breathless.
Nerge shrugged. “It’s the same test I undergo all children.” Answered peaceful. The woman looked at him alarmed.
“Can’t you chang
Gine's story - Chapter 2Chapter 2
Four years later.
"Here in my school even the most reticent children become great warriors." Said the man, sitting with his feet on the desk eating a piece of roast meat as snack.
Meiz watched him carefully. "Really?"
The teacher looked fearsome to say the least, he lacked an arm and the tip of his tail had been severed. Surely these injuries must have occurred before the discovery of Tsufuru's medical progress, that allows rigeneration of body parts or prosthetic substitution in case of harsher wounds. "Obviously I'm known as one of the strongest fighters of the planet, if not of the universe, and you think that after all of these years I can't teach a bunch of snottynosed kids how to punch?"
Meiz looked at him regretting her words, she did not mean to offend him.
"It wasn't my intention, I'm sorry."
The man stared at her, only to burst out laughing with disbelief. "Sorry?! Really?! Ah, come with me. You don't fight, do you?"
"No, I work at uniform production."
His laughs go
